Henry A. Wallace Fellowship Program Director
Tim Kumfer is the Henry A. Wallace Fellowship Program Director at IPS, where he supports the next generation of leaders in developing skills at the intersection of policy research, advocacy, and grassroots activism. In addition to leading IPS’ fellowship programs, he researches housing and urban policy and the ways that people can build more equitable cities. Tim holds a PhD in American Studies from the University of Maryland, where his dissertation examined how fights for affordable housing and community-led development in Washington entwined with struggles for racial justice and political empowerment, including the movement for DC statehood. Prior to joining IPS he was a postdoctoral fellow at Georgetown University and worked for Good Jobs First, an economic development policy resource center. He teaches urban studies at the University of California Washington Program and is a longtime member of ONE DC.

Help IPS turn progressive policy ideas into action
